Abstract: Butterflies of Medike (Soutpansberg Mountains, South Africa) with some notes on spring
butterflies (Lepidoptera). Cent. Ent. Stud., Misc. Pap. 91 / 92: 1-9, 1 Tab.
In this paper totally 104 butterfly species at Medike Mountain Reserve Station in Soutpansberg Mts.
(South Africa) are listed with their synonyms and ranges. Besides, butterflies of spring aspect are given in
Table with information on nectar plants of adults.
In northern South Africa, the authors visited Soutpansberg Mountains, especially Medike Mountain Reserve
Station four times between the years of 2003 and 2004. This paper deals with the information on the butterflies living
in Medike, with their spring aspect in September 2004.^
Totally 106 species of butterflies are found in the whole year. Between 5 and 20 September in 2004, totally
75 species of butterflies are recorded.
Spring butterflies are mentioned in Table 1 , with their nectar plants and other feeding activities. Butterflies
of Papilionidae and Pieridae visit flowers more frequently than those of other families.
In the main list of the butterflies are listed alphabetically under their families. To each species synonyms
and information their range are added. Nomenclaturally unavailable names marked with "#". States, countries or
sites, where the butterflies recorded are indicated as codes. The explanations of the codes may be found and
downloaded from the following internet site: http://www.members.tripod.com/Cesa88/CODE.doc

Nomenclatural notes on the Papilionidae
(Lepidoptera)
Muhabbet Kemal •& Ahmet Omer Kocak
Abstract: Nomenclatural notes on the Papilionidae (Lepidoptera). Cent. Ent Stud., Misc. Pap.
91 /92: 10-11. In this paper, four subspecific replacement names are proposed due to the
primary homonymy under the Homonymy Rules of the ICZN. Due to the same reason, one
subspecific name is revived. Two junior primary homonyms are mentioned but no replacement
name proposed.
Key words: Lepidoptera, Papilionidae, homonymy, replacement names.

Nomenclatural Corrections on some Neotropical Sphingidae
(Lepidoptera)
Muhabbet Kemal Ahmet O. Kocak
Abstract: Nomenclatural Corrections on some Neotropical Sphingidae (Lepidoptera). Centr. ent. Stud.,
Misc. Pap. 91/92: 14. This paper deals with some nomenclatural corrections of sphingid species from
South America. Madoryx plutonins (Hubner,[1819]) is proposed as valid name. Sphinx phito
Cramer,1779 is invalid as being junior primary homonym of Sphinx pluto Fabricius,1777 (syn.nov.).
Key Words: Madoryx plntonius, Madoryx pluto, Sphingidae, Lepidoptera nomenclature, new synonym.
South America.
Checklist of the Neotropical Lepidoptera, covering the family Sphingidae has been published by
Carcasson & Heppner (1996). During our preparation on the world wide data base program on the
Lepidoptera, one specie?,, Madoryx pluto (Cramer, 1779) described from Surinam has been found by us as
junior primary homonym. According to the current Zoological Code, this name must be treated as invalid.
This short nomenclatural note has been prepared for this purpose. Our proposal are given below:
a) Madoryx plutonius (Hubner,[1819]) (sp. rev.)
= Sphinx pluto Cramer,1779 nee Fabricius,1777 (syn.nov.)
= Hemeroplanes plutonius Hubner,[1819]
= Madoryx deborrei Boisduval,[1875]
Sphinx pluto Cramer, 1779 is invalid as being junior primary homonym of Sphinx pluto
Fabricius,1777. The latter is currently used as valid name of a sphingid species in the genus Xylophanes
Hubner,[1819] of the South America.
The name Hemeroplanes plutonius Hubner,[1819] must be used as valid name for the species
under discussion.
Range of the species: South and Central America.
b) Madoryx bubastus (Cramer,! 777)
= lyncus Boisduval,[1875]
= #babastus Carcasson & Hepner,1996 incorrect subsequent spelling (syn.nov.)
c) Read date of publication oi ''Xylophanes ceratomioides" as "1867" instead of "1967" (see page 59,
Carcasson & Heppner, 1996).

Stud., Misc. Pap. 91/92: 15.
This paper deals with the following replacement names of the moth taxa of South Africa: Antoniejanse
(nom. nov.) in the family Gelechiidae, and Lymantria heringi (nom.nov.) in the family Lymantriidae.
Key Words: Lepidoptera, Lymantria heringi disparina Gelechiidae South Africa.

junior homonym of Paratelphusa Zehntner, 1 894 (Revue Suisse Zool. 2: 169) [Crustacea]. Therefore, in
accordance with the Homonymy Rules of ICZN, We propose here a replacement name Antoniejanse
(nom. nov.) pro Paratelphusa Janse,1958 nee Paratelphusa Zehntner, 1894. We dedicate this name to
Antonie Johannes Theodorus Janse, who had great contributions to the Lepidoptera fauna and taxonomy
of South Africa.
Type-species: Paratelphusa griseoptera Janse, 1958.
Species included:
Antoniejanse griseoptera (Janse, 195 8) (comb.n.)

Aclonophlebia disparina Hering,1926 ([in] Seitz,A., Die Gross-Schmett. Erde 14: 192) is invalid, as it is
junior secondary homonym of Phalaena disparina Muller,1802 (Fauna Lepidopterorum Silesiaca 3:1)
(currently considered in the genus Lymantria Hbn. {Lymantriidae)) (cf Vari et al.,2002: 169). Therefore,
in accordance with the Homonymy Rules of ICZN, We propose here a replacement name, Lymantria
heringi (nom. nov.) pro Lymantria disparina (Hering,1926) nee [Lymantria] Phalaena disparina
Muller,1802.. We dedicate this name to the author of the taxon, who has great contributions to the
Lepidoptera fauna and taxonomy of Africa.
